If you suffered injuries in an auto accident, a crucial tool for your lawsuit is a copy of your Atlanta accident report.

The Georgia Uniform Motor Vehicle Accident Report is the form used by all reporting agencies for an auto accident.

Georgia law permits those injured in an accident to recover compensation from the responsible party.

If you have trouble obtaining a copy of your accident report or need help, consult a qualified personal injury lawyer to assist you.

Why Is My Atlanta Accident Report Important?

After a car accident, dial 9-1-1 immediately and wait for the police to arrive at the scene. Once an officer comes, provide them with as much detailed information as possible.

When a police officer creates a report detailing your accident, they include essential factual information regarding the accident and, in some situations, may provide a determination of fault.

It’s crucial to get your take on the accident incorporated into the report.

An Atlanta car accident report contains the following information:

  • Date and time of the accident,
  • Injuries sustained by all involved parties,
  • Insurance information of all involved parties,
  • Property damage to vehicles,
  • Witness statements,
  • Driving conditions at the time of the crash,
  • Statements from drivers involved in the crash,
  • Other useful information.

Evidence from an accident report helps refresh memories and provides valuable information from the perspective of an unbiased reporting office.

How to Obtain an Atlanta Accident Report

There are two ways to obtain a copy of your Atlanta police accident report.

Your attorney might assist you in obtaining a copy. But you can do so in person or online if you decide to get a copy yourself.

Multiple agencies create Atlanta police reports in various counties throughout the city.

Get Your Atlanta Car Accident Report In-Person

The easiest way to obtain a copy of Atlanta car accident reports is in person. You may get a copy by going to the Georgia Department of Transportation to request a copy of your report.

If a police officer from the Atlanta Police Department created your accident report, visit the department’s Public Safety Annex located at 3943 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NE from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

You may also call the annex at 408-546-7461 to double-check the hours and procedures. The police department may charge a small fee, but the cost is typically less than $10.

If Fulton County Sheriff reported to the scene of your accident, you might pick up a copy of Atlanta car accident reports in person at two police precincts.

One is the Old National Precinct, located at 5615 Old National Highway, College Park, Georgia 30349. The number for the Old National precinct is 404-613-3005.

You may also pick up a copy of the Atlanta police accident report from 141 Pryor Street, Atlanta, Georgia 30303. The number for this location is 404- 614-5700.

The hours of operation for both locations are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Get Your Accident Report in Atlanta Online

The City of Atlanta also partnered with BuyCrash, permitting drivers to obtain copies of their accident reports online. To get the accident report online, you must provide specific information regarding the crash.

Be prepared to provide the following:

  • Your name,
  • The date of the accident,
  • The road where the accident occurred, and
  • Your vehicle’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

The online system charges a fee to access the report online, generally $11. You may then download the accident report to print and save it to your computer.

If you have questions about your accident report, the reporting officer is the person to contact.

If you are physically able, write down the reporting officer’s name while you are still at the scene of the accident.
